The world of the Frosty

The world of the Frosty

We are in the most dreaded season of the Frosty and the coldest period of the year: winter. It's dark, grey and cold. The time when all the woollen socks, thermal clothing and jumpers are pulled out of the closet, and the Frosty slowly disappears behind a pile of thick fabric, until almost no piece of skin can be seen....

Who is the Frosty?

A Frosty is always cold. A poor soul shivering on the sofa, hiding under a pile of clothes. The Frosty suffers from cold hands & feet and even when sleeping and working, the cold gets in the way, because your muscles stiffen and you can only relax with difficulty. Why is that anyway?

This is what happens in the body of the Frosty

When you are in a cold environment, your body immediately shoots into a defence mechanism. In doing so, it gets smart: by sending blood from your 'less important' body parts - your limbs - to the most important organs, it protects itself from the cold. Not surprisingly, your hands and feet are the first to feel cold!

In addition, you get goose bumps and your body starts shivering. Your muscles tighten to create warmth. While this helps well against the cold, there are also some drawbacks such as dehydrated skin and fatigue. And did you know that women tend to be colder than men? That's because, on average, they have less muscle and more fatty tissue.

Stoov®'s tips for the Frosty

Winter can sometimes be very cold, but there are many ways to stay warm without burdening your wallet or the environment! Here are our tips for beating winter in a sustainable way:

Heat yourself and not the space around you

If you are sitting quietly in your living room, heat your spot with a heating blanket, rather than the whole room. Infrared heating is a sustainable way to heat yourself. It warms you from the inside out, which is a nice and efficient way to beat the cold. And it even has several health benefits!

Keep exercising and moving

By exercising and moving, you ensure good circulation. If your body has good blood flow and your system is running well, you are less likely to feel the cold. While exercising, your body will also burn more, releasing energy. And energy is warmth! This makes you less likely to get cold.

A warm nest is best

There is nothing like crawling into bed after a long day, to unwind properly. But for the cold-hearted, it's hard to get completely comfortable to recharge because he or she gets cold easily at night. Pre-warming your bed, with a hot water bottle or a heating blanket, can do wonders for this!

Create different heat zones in your home

There is no one standard good temperature, each room in your home you might want heated to a different temperature. Think about the bathroom, for instance; it's nice to have it a bit warmer there. In your bedroom, it might be colder again and you warm your bed using a heating pad. Be aware of heating entire rooms, the dry air created can be harmful. And that's not best for yourself and nature!
